Seriously, although they do have status as legal tender, they are actually regarded as a "medal coin", and are not used as official currency.
The krugerrand itself is made using 22 karat gold during manufacture. The coin is alloyed during the making process to ensure your ability using small amounts of copper. The coin is one twelfth copper content. First minted in 1967, the krugerrand calling contains one troy ounce of pure gold, and are guaranteed for purity and white by the government mint.
The coin is produced in the country of South Africa, which is one of the biggest producers of gold in the world.
The krugerrand features the springbok antelope on the reverse of the coin, and the face of Paul Kruger on the front, who was president of the then South African Republic.
